Larson • King Attorneys Obtain Summary Judgment In School-Shooting Insurance Coverage Case
02/08/2008
Larson • King was successful at obtaining summary judgment in favor of their client, a regional mutual insurance company, who had denied the existence of liability coverage to its insured, a student who shot and killed two of his fellow students. Judge Patrick Schiltz granted summary judgment from the bench, holding that the criminal violation exclusion in the insurance policy precluded liability coverage for the actions of the student shooter. The student shooter had been tried and convicted in a prior criminal action. The insurer was represented by Paula Duggan Vraa and John M. Bjorkman.
