Class Action & Mass Tort

Our firm serves as national counsel for several major corporations that face mass tort, pattern and class action claims. We have vast experience in coordinating and managing law firms across the country engaged in the representation of our mutual clients. We have routinely been involved in cases which are filed in different venues, including multiple plaintiffs, mass plaintiff consolidations, multi-district litigation, pattern cases and class actions. Larson • King attorneys have been involved in mass torts and pattern litigation since inception of this type of litigation. Some of our attorneys have decades of experience in handling product liability, mass tort, and pattern cases. Examples of our mass tort and pattern litigation experience include the following:
Toxic Tort Litigation: Represent product manufacturers on a national and local basis involved in hundreds, and in certain instances thousands, of mass tort claims involving alleged exposures to asbestos, silica, lead, benzene, isocyanates, and other occupational exposures. Our firm’s national representation in this area of toxic tort litigation has included not only the coordination and management on a national basis of such claims, but the jury trial of both individual plaintiff cases and groups of plaintiffs joined for trial.

Breast Implant Litigation: Larson • King attorneys served as counsel for a major manufacturer of breast implants. Our attorneys participated in the negotiation of the global settlement agreements and also coordinated many aspects of this mass tort litigation.

Repetitive Stress Litigation: Represent product manufacturers in the defense of alleged repetitive stress claims purportedly caused by the design of equipment, including keyboard design. The members of our firm have been assigned the responsibilities of coordination and management of these cases, but we have also tried such claims in state and federal court.

Banking and Financial Institution Lawsuits: Our attorneys have served as lead counsel in the defense of banks and financial institutions involved in various class action lawsuits and have successfully avoided class certification.

Pattern Litigation: Represent product manufacturers on a national and local basis involved in pattern litigation alleging the same or similar claims concerning the design, failure to warn or other defect claims involving numerous products. Our defense of pattern litigation includes both consumer and industrial products.
We have also undertaken the representation of plaintiffs in certain class action or mass tort cases. Our experience in the representation of plaintiffs in class action matters has included the following:
Consumer Protection Class Actions: Our firm has served as lead counsel in various consumer protection classes including a nationally publicized action against the developer of high stakes standardized tests which was resolved through a settlement valued at $12 million.

Defective Radiant Heating Systems: Larson • King attorneys were recently appointed lead counsel for the Class of approximately 4,000 purchasers of faulty in-floor radiant heat heating systems.

Pharmaceutical Litigation: Our attorneys are involved in various pharmaceutical cases and were recently appointed Plaintiffs’ Liaison Counsel for thousands of federal court cases currently pending in the multi-district litigation In Re: Baycol Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 1431.

Insurance Litigation: We have served as lead counsel in both the defense and prosecution of class actions involving claims against insurance companies. These claims have involved alleged overcharges, discrimination, and other alleged unfair insurance practices.
